“Didn’t you say you’re an aspiring game developer?”
Sure did. In the summer of 2024, some friends and I started talking about making a farm sim. We’re all big fans of the genre and wanted to bring new ideas to it.
None of us have ever made a video game, though. Not unless you count simple text-based games or projects back in computer science undergrad classes. Plus, we all work full time in non-video game fields, and many of us are pursuing other crafts. So you can imagine development has been slow. The first year alone was just logistics—what sort of farm sim did we want? What kind of plot interested us? What mechanics were engaging, and what made gameplay a drag? Was it time to think about characters? Romance routes?
Toward the end of 2025, we really kicked it off. We’re not ready to share anything yet. We don’t even have a name for it. Just a working title and pitch line.
THORNCROFT: a fantasy farm sim where you play as a farmer trying to save a long-forgotten, dying world by growing crops and building bridges.
